Micro skin needling is a minimally invasive collagen stimulating procedure designed to resurface and improve the quality of your skin. Dermal filler is a gel substance made of hyaularonic acid which is a natural compound found within our skin. It mimics the ‘water’ retaining function our skin needs to stay hydrated.
Dermal filler is cross linked with different binding agents to withstand breaking down and structural integrity, allowing it to serve different volumising or sculptural purposes depending on which areas of the face requires augmentation.
Dermal fillers are used to restore lost volume in ageing faces, they are also used to enhance shape like chins or cheeks or they can simply be used to hydrate the skin.
There are many types of dermal fillers with varying properties used for different aesthetic purposes. It is the role of your practitioner to determine which dermal filler is best suited to you. In Australia we do not have ‘cheap’ or less effective dermal fillers, they simply serve different purposes.
Dermal filler can last in the face for many years, hydrating and dehydrating with your body’s fluid levels. Filler will respond to water in the tissue thus the importance of keeping hydrated.
Although dermal filler does naturally breakdown and metabolize within the body, its important to discuss re treatment with your practitioner to minimize over filling.

Antiwrinkle medicines are also used in skin treatments to shrink pores, tighten skin or block sweat glands in excessive sweating (this is called hyperhydrosis).
There are currently 4 types of antiwrinkle medicines in Australia that we are approved to use. Your practitioner will discuss the most appropriate botulinum toxin to use in your treatment. You will see slight bumps and injection marks that will disappear within the first few hours after treatment. Bruising may also be present and will subside whenever your bruising naturally heals. Arnica or Hirudoid cream can be applied to aid healing of bruises.
It takes 14 days for the antiwrinkle medicine to take full affect. You will start to notice changes within the first few days and incrementally kick in up until 14 days. It can sometimes kick in unevenly, as your muscle contractions are naturally uneven, it’s important to wait and trust the process.
It may feel tight, heavy or droopy during this time. This feeling will generally wear off. A follow-up appointment/ review may be required after 2 weeks to provide adjustments or top ups. It is common to make corrections at the 2 week review, especially for new patients.
– Stay upright for 4 hours & go about your normal daily routine.
– Refrain from lying down or applying pressure on the areas injected.
– Paracetamol may help with pain relief if you experience headaches post. Headaches are not uncommon for some people.
– Avoid strenuous activity for up to 48 hours post treatment that induce sweating.
– Avoid saunas for 1 week after treatment.
– Avoid any facial treatments for 2 weeks. This include lasers, peels or massage.
– Avoid eye brow waxing the area treated for 2 weeks post.

Antiwrinkle treatments follow a 12 weeks cycle – it is important we do not treat you with the medicine less than 12 week from your previous treatment, to avoid building a resistance to the medicine.
Fat dissolving injections use a medicine called deoxycholic acid which permanently breaks down and removes fat cells in the body. This popular treatment is used to improve the appearance of excessive submental fat referred to as a ‘double chin’. The medicine can also be used into the lower jowls of the face to help reduce fat in this area, resulting in a slimmer face with natural jaw contouring.
The treatment involves numbing the area with local anaesthetic and then injecting the medicine, which provides a virtually painless and comfortable treatment. You can expect immediate swelling to the area with significant swelling for the first 24-48 hours after.
The patient can expect to remain swollen for up to 1 week after the procedure, so it is recommended you abstain from work or activities for the first 3 days. This swelling is a necessary step in the healing process, as the fat cells are broken down and metabolised by the body.
Most patients will require a second treatment 12 weeks after the first appointment. The results are permanent and offer a great non surgical solution.
Post-Treatment Care
You can expect swelling, bruising and discomfort to the area immediately after treatment. A ‘bullfrog-like’ swell post treatment is desired as its a sign the medicine is effectively targeting the fat cells. Significant swelling is expected for up to 7 days, with moderate swelling lasting anywhere from 7-14 days. You will have some residual ‘puffiness’ anywhere up to 4 weeks in some cases. Numbness and tingling is an expected side effect anywhere up to 4 weeks post treatment. You will experience a hard lump in the area of treatment from 7 days onwards, this is your fat cells breaking down and will be metabolised by the body (massage as stated below).
– Ice should be applied to the area as needed, to reduce swelling for the first 48 hrs.
– A jaw compression bandage will help reduce swelling in the first 3 days
– Panadol can be taken if required as instructed on the label
– Arnica gel/ hirudoid can be applied three times a day until bruising resolves.
– 1% Hydrocortisone cream (from chemist) can be applied if swelling persists / is impacting daily life.
– Massage the treated area gently with hands or Gua sha daily; after 48hrs to aid the process of dead fat cell elimination for 4 weeks or as needed.
– Avoid makeup on the area for 24 hrs due to infection risks.
– Sleep on a clean pillow case and use a clean towel when showing.
– No excessive cardio excercise for 3 days post treatment -walking/ yoga is recommended.
– Do not take anti-inflammatories (aspirin, nurofen) or Vitamin E for 24 hours
– Drink lots of fluids (water) for the first 24 hours & avoid alcohol as much as possible for 1 week post to facilitate hepatic handling of toxins.

PDO smooth mono threads, are very thin and small dissolvable sutures that are made of a material called polydioxanone. Often used in cardiac surgery, polydiaxanone is a well known and safe material used medically for many years prior to its introduction into cosmetic medicine.
The small sutures dissolve in the skin tissue over 3-6 months. They are used to stimulate collagen and elastin; which rebuilds the integrity of the skin. PDO threads are ideal for shrinking and tightening the skin and to add structural support for lines or deep creases where volume is not required.
PDO Threads are administered with either topical or local anaesthetic for a comfortable treatment. You will often experience swelling and bruising to the site, which does accelerate overall collagen production so we avoid icing or minimising this inflammatory response.
Bruising will last as long as your bruising takes to heal, this can be a few days to a week. Swelling can lasts 24-48 hours, sometimes not at all.
PDO threads can be administered in multiple treatments until the desired result is achieved. They produce natural and undetectable results making them a favourable treatment for targeting areas like the nasolabial folds, around the mouth or tear trough region.
Post-Treatment Care
You can expect swelling and bruising after your treatment. This is normal and expected more so with PDO threads than any other treatment. Bruising and swelling only contribute to collagen stimulation as they activate your fibroblasts to come and ‘repair’ your tissue resulting in more collagen. You can applying Arnica or Hirudoid cream from your local pharmacy to accelerate bruise discolouration.
Once your local anaesthetic wears off you may be tender within the area, you can take panadol only if your able to do so, but avoid ibuprofen/asprin as they will contribute to more bruising. If you feel particularly swollen at the treatment site you can apply ice to the area. If unsure contact your practitioner for advise.
It is important you do not touch your face for the first 4 hours after treatment, to reduce the risk of infection.
It is not uncommon to feel some ‘tweaks’ or pinching under the skin where your threads have been placed, this is normal and nothing to be concerned about. You can massage the area to relieve the sensation. Remember the sutures are very thin and are exactly like suture you may have had to close a wound, they will dissolve over the next 3 months leaving behind a bed of collagen.
